Top 5 Griha Pravesh Tips for your Newly bought Flats in Kolkata

When it comes to a new house in India, the owners are very particular about the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony. It is believed that this ceremony helps reduce the impact of evil spirits and raise the level of surrounding energy. Thus, this ceremony is performed on an auspicious day. The date is calculated by the Hindu priests or astrologers on the basis of ‘Panchanga’. The festive season is the best time for buyers to invest in real estate properties and also to perform the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony. Given the present season of festivals, buyers are investing in properties at prime locations in the metro cities like Kolkata and making arrangements for the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony.

Let us note down a few tips on performing the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony and making it a grand success.

1. Select the perfect date: An auspicious date is absolutely mandatory for performing the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony. One cannot just do it on any day. It is believed that Vasant Panchami, Gudi Padwa, Akshay Tritiya and Dussehra are some of the most auspicious days for the performance of this ceremony. Astrologers and Vastu Shastra experts opine that the homeowners should avoid fixing a date on these particular days like Holi, Shraddha Paksha, Uttarayana or Adhikmas. In the coming month of November also, there are some couple of days ideal for performing this ceremony.

2. Do not go for ‘Griha Pravesh’ for an apartment under-construction: One must not perform a ‘Griha Pravesh’ in an under-construction apartment. According to ‘Vastu Shastra’ experts, the walls must be fully painted with the ready ceiling and well-fitted doors, windows and other home fixtures. That is to say, only when your apartments are completely done up, you should perform this ceremony. Please keep in mind some believe that homeowners need to spend 3 consecutive nights in the new flats after the performance of the religious ceremony. Without it being completely done up, it is impossible to move in and spend your time there even if it is for a temporary period.

3. The worship of ‘Vastu Purush’: Primarily the ‘Vastu Purush’ is worshipped during ‘Griha Pravesh’. The importance of entrance to the apartment is very important and hence it should be decorated with auspicious symbols like the ‘Swatika’ and ‘Laxmi Feet’. These symbols should be drawn to the threshold. One should hang garlands made of mango leaves and marigold flowers and hang it at over the front door. The temple or the room of worship should be built at the north-east corner of the apartment and one should place the deities on the day of ‘Griha Pravesh’ itself.

4. Make it elaborate or simple-choose the option correctly: Whether or not to make the celebration a grand event depends on the wishes of the homeowners. Nothing is mandatory at this point. However, one must offer food to the deities, priest and the invitees.

5. Perform a "havan": For the purification of the surrounding environment and to reduce the influence of evil spirits, ‘havan’ must be performed. Generally one conducts ‘Ganesha Puja’, ‘Navagraha Shanti’ and ‘Vastu Puja’ during the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony.

This whole festive season had been an ideal time for buying a real estate property in Kolkata. Hopefully, the tips will help you bring the best of your luck.
